HugelKultur, Three Sisters, and Raised Beds -North Carolina Summertime Garden
This post is from April 30 (There are a few more garden videos on the Youtube Channel):
"I sheet mulched (after scraping away the grass) around a new serviceberry two weeks ago. Then, we realized that we need that space now. So, I busted out the pickaxe and double dug the bed...adding most of the sheet mulch (cardboard and hay) and some organic amendments. Then, we jumped the gun and planted corn, beans, and squash. We have transplanted about 100 butter lettuce into various beds from a dense planting in a metal barrel. This method seems to be pretty fantastic! Yesterday, we built and planted a hugelkultur mound with the leftover soil and turf from building the stairs along with some hay. The pears are thriving. The hops are hopping. The grapes are starting to leaf out. What's Growing? Hops, Asparagus, Beans, Corn, Rhubarb, Squash, Lettuce, Kale, Serviceberry, Pear Tree, Strawberry, Potato, Onion, Chard, Carrots, Basil, Elderberry, Hardy Kiwi, Grapes. Yes, I have the sniffles."
